In “The Wilderness” oil painting, we witness a haunting portrayal of economically afflicted Africans gathering in unfulfilled expectation, in a dark, blustery weather, in search of solace. The artwork encapsulates the excoriating emotional bruises and relentless struggles faced by individuals striving for spiritual intervention against a backdrop of darkness and despair. Each figure in the painting reflects vulnerability, gullibility, pain, uncertainty, and hopelessness. This is what I call “The Wilderness Syndrome”.  This piece, in my opinion, exposes the everyday complexities of the African experience, particularly the interplay between spirituality and economic realitieS.

  • Ernest Obukx Agoba is a Nigerian-American-based fine artist. For more than 30 years,  he has cultivated a versatile career spanning Painting, Photography, and the Theatre. With these, he brings a master’s eye for detail to every creative project he handles. This extensive experience across diverse visual media has honed his attention to detail, color theory, and compositional balance in his art, enabling him to consistently deliver a synthesis of dramatic and poetic style that oscillates between realism and abstraction. The HopeHill Gallery of Art is one of his projects for expressing his art forms and ideas.  Agoba’s art invites collectors and admirers to connect deeply with emotion, meaning, and light. Every piece embodies his belief that true art does more than decorate—it inspires, restores, and endures.

W have a satisfaction guarantee. If you are not happy with your artwork, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your order to discuss a return or exchange. However, an exchange of the work with another may be made. Cash is not refunded. Custom commission pieces are equally  non-refundable.
